Right, I am pausing in my prepartions to do a last post before Christmas. I shall have to undergo several hours of armed combat in Tescos later and then will be chained to an oven for the next three days. I will emerge battered and bruised and covered in a sheen of bacon fat on Boxing Day.
I have to say the only thing I'm looking forward to is the Royal Institution's annual Christmas lectures on science, see here, which I have watched every year since I can remember. But then, I am a bit of a saddo, as you know. They are on maths this year, hurrah! I would highly recommend these talks especially to wannabe geeks without a background in science but with an interest in cryptography.*
Hope you all have as happy a time as it is possible to have when confined in a small space with your close relatives and a shedload of alcohol. I will leave you with a seasonal scene courtesy of littlest realdoc (who is so excited she is spending at least 75% of each day standing on her head.)

Ooh, she means me! Me! I shall be watching the code one, thanks realdoc. I've got his book about prime numbers as well, but, along with so many others, I haven't got round to reading it yet, sigh. Maybe on the train to Cornwall...

I know you mean P, because I'm a *real* geek (though not a math geek), but still wish I could watch them. Fortunately we're spending Christmas with a friend who is a world expert on cryptography! So that'll almost be as good, eh?
Have a wonderful holiday. I plan to try to remember how to sing, edit a literary journal, and watch endless repeats of Green Wing. Ahhh. Now that's a holiday.
My darling daughter will be glued to the RI Christmas Lectures too - she went to them for real five years running from 9-14yrs and grew up to be a true geek, a materials science engineer. Personally I suspect she may have been swapped at birth, I haven't a mathematical gene in my DNA.

Ah those Royal Institution Christmas lectures..I can remember years ago when it all started and featured Dr Carl Sagan doing a lecture about the cosmos! it was brilliant.

I used to watch all the biology and chemistry RI lectures (my geekiness lies in that direction). Maths confuses me, which is why I need Billy.

I had some strange memories of the nativity play I was in this morning. The girl who was narrating it was wearing a pink crimplene dress and wellies. I can remember not being allowed to wear my jelly shoes on the stage, so my mother was really angry with me for having dirty feet.

Yes - like the lovely Llewtrah I've just had my first sensible meal - a bowl of oat bran cereal. We are awash with cold cuts, straggling mince pies and an extra Christmas pudding. No one wanted the brandy butter.
