Our Tune....try not to boke.

A funny thing happened. Mr realdoc and I have a song, it's our song and has been for nearly 20 years. It's a fairly obscure soul classic from a lady called Barbara Lewis called 'Baby I'm Yours' and it is very soppy in a sweet sort of way. It's the sort of song that you pick as 'your song' when you're young and the world still seems like a soppy and sweet sort of place.

You can imagine us in the first flush of young love looking a bit like the couple on the cover. You can imagine us like that if you like, we don't look anything like them , but still.

Anyway back to the funny thing that happened. I discovered that the fashionable, power pop combo The Arctic Monkeys had done a cover version of our song. I was stunned, no really. This is a song that I have never once heard played on the radio and have met very few people that have even heard of it. Well I had to hear it, so I downloaded it and Mr. realdoc and I listened and they hadn't sped it up or messed around with it. They have just done a fairly standard cover version really....... well we went a bit misty-eyed for a minute and just for a little while felt that the world was a soppy and sweet place to be in again.

Just thought I'd share, hope I haven't caused too many regurgitations on to keyboards. Do any of you have a song?

Is this that one that goes "Baby, I'm yours... and I'll be yours until two and two is three, yours until the mountain crumbles to the sea; in other words, until eternity..."?

If it is, I know the song. And this is embarrassing. From the SHAUN CASSIDY cover of it.

{sigh}

My boy and I don't seem to have a 'song', though we return again and again to Brian Eno's In Dark Trees. But I don't think that'd be the kind of song you're talking about.

Oh, hell. I'm wrong. And it's worse: I know it from the DEBBY BOONE cover. So now everyone knows I owned both of those albums in my early teens!

They were a gift from my mother...

Have to say I have never heard the Shaun Cassidy or the Debby Boone covers. Have to say I'm quite glad about that.
Valerie any song can be your song Dark Trees is as good as any other.

Ooh, I know that song. It was quite popular in the states, and the "Oldies" stations (sorry about that) still play it quite a lot.

How's about including it in your next realdocast?

Me and Mr Violet's song is Delicious by Sleeper, with the incredibly romantic line "we should both go to bed til we make each other sore"...

Haven't heard any versions of Baby I'm Yours, shame on me. (blogger won't log me in this evening, wellll annoying)

SO and I each stopped listening to pop music in our second years, with sighs of relief. So I could say something really precious like 'Bei Männern' from Zauberflöte or 'Deh Vieni' from Nozze di Figaro but I won't.

The version of 'Can't Smile Without You' from Four Weddings made me hoot though.

Beta won't let me log in. I'm not moving until I see a copy of its birth certificate. Betcha the space for 'Father' is blank.

Everyone who puts "Arctic Monkeys" and "Simon Bates Our Tune" into Google will now arrive at your blog, Realdoc. There's bound to be one!

What a coincidence.

Although it's not "our" song.

Is "boke" Norn Ironish for "chunder"?

Yup, and a fine word it is too.

Oh, I've got here, but I had to sign up for a Google account first, my Blogger identity wouldn't do. Boo.

So, what I wanted to say earlier today was:

When my ex and I were, ahem, courting, she always played her Carpenters records.

Having just, for old times sake, bought one of their CDs, I find it's full of songs about breaking-up, and being on your own. I guess 'Solitaire' would be our song.

BTW, I have replied to your comment on my blog, doc.
