Mad, middle-aged women on wheels.

Biggest little realdoc, (she's not little at all any more, she can look me in the eye now and bloody hell, that's disconcerting) has got a pair of these for her birthday. As her feet are now as big as mine I was 'persuaded' to have a go and..............
Let's just say she has probably filmed the whole episode on her phone and posted it on youtube and if I do discover that this is the case, no I bloody well won't give you the link.

PS Whales' blog is back, hurrah. But he isn't allowing comments, boo. Anyway whales if you're reading this get yourself over to Wyndham's where there is a tricky physics problem that needs your expert input.

What are the wheels for, Realdoc?

There seems to have been the beginnings of an epidemic as far as kids and these trainers with wheels in go up at the indoor shopping centre here.

I'm looking forward to childcare experts demonising them and saying they're responsible for children getting even less exercise because their parents drag them around on wheels when they should be walking.

Oh dear, I'm so old. I haven't a clue what they're for nor have I ever consciously seen them being used. Doc and Betty, please enlighten?

They are trainers and they are a skateboard. Obvious isn't it. Still they are certain to keep the other half in work.

aha, heeleys or is it heelies? The eldest of the little TMEs has these on his christmas list but as he could trip over in an empty room I foresee plenty of trips to see Uncle Mr Dr Realdoc

I have been fascinated by these when I first saw them a couple of weeks ago. I saw someone whizzing past me in a shopping centre and it looked so utterly strange, but I loved it. There was something alien about it actually. I had to do a double take. I just thought at first that the floor was ultra smooth and you could slide along on your shoes. But, they are actually little wheels on the bottom and the kids go whizzing past. I think it's really funny. I'd love to have seen you on them. Oh go on, film yourself and let us see you whizzing along. Brilliant.

I find them amrginally less offensive than the trainers with flashing lights. You don't notice the trainers with flashing lights at first but sense a strange pulsating in the room which I have learned to associate with mental illness or alien abduction or both and it's quite disconcerting. I have to ask my disembodied voice, Xanaboff, for reassurance and she tells me it's just some annoying kid with lights on their feet.

They're yet another useless item that stores persuade us are "must haves". They'll go the way of clackers and pogs, with brief revivals. They'll be the subject of nostalgic "who remembers ..." posts.

Oooh word verif "prator" - not far off "prater" - one who talks excessively and pointlessly :)

I broke my ankle three years ago, and last year broke it again thus buggering up my international tap-dancing career not mention Olympic ice-skating, so I shan't be wearing these anytime soon.
How long do you think it will be before ROSPA and the Health & Safety Stazi get on the case and ban these trainers? I'm thinking of taking bets.

Part 30

Nancy felt like a child, her feet alive with movement. She whizzed off over the hill-tops, into a toffee-apple horizon.

Now go to part 31.

For those who can't afford trainers with wheels in the soles, I saw strap on heel-wheels for ordinary trainers. I saw a kid wearing them in town this morning. The wheels are either side of the heel - it was just like wearing the back half of an old-fashioned rollerskate really.
